Middlesex County Search Resources

Middlesex County sits in the middle of Connecticut along the river. It has 15 towns but only one city over 25,000 people. Middletown has a population around 48,600 and is the main place for records in this area. The Middletown town clerk is at (860) 638-4960. Smaller towns like Cromwell, Portland, East Hampton, and Clinton each have their own clerk offices too. All of them handle vital records, land records, and other public documents.

Connecticut got rid of county governments in 1960. So Middlesex County has no central office for records. Everything goes through the individual towns. Town clerks serve as registrars under Section 7-51 of state law. They keep birth, death, and marriage records. They also file land records under Section 7-34a and maintain trade name certificates. When searching for someone in Middlesex County, the town where they live is your first stop.

State-level tools fill in the gaps. These databases pull records from across Middlesex County and the rest of Connecticut, so you do not have to check each town one by one.
